Varay, which also calls itself Varay Managed IT, is a managed IT provider with offices in San Antonio, El Paso and Midland/Odessa. Its cybersecurity page says it was established in 2002, and another page says it has supported businesses in those three markets for over two decades. The pages we read name no owner or executive.
It says it works with businesses of all sizes, small businesses included. Its industry pages cover construction, financial firms, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, non-profits, oil and gas, and wholesale.
What Varay sells
The site lists proactive monitoring and infrastructure management, cybersecurity, cloud services, IT consulting, compliance management, Microsoft 365 and VoIP phone systems. Its services page adds network management, help desk support, and data backup and recovery. The wholesale page lists remote and on-site support, 24/7 IT support and vCIO consulting.
The cybersecurity page describes managed firewalls it calls PCI and HIPAA-compliant, control of internet activity to limit DNS attacks, managed threat intelligence with SIEM, and staff training through phishing simulations. The Microsoft 365 page covers design, migration, training and support, and says special pricing is available to eligible non-profit organizations.
One item is unusual for an MSP. The wholesale page says Varay creates and supports warehouse management systems, and mentions a new cloud-based application it can tailor to a business.
The work it points to
Its case studies page lists six write-ups dated from 2019 to 2021. Two name the client: Cibolo Nature Center, and Fox Auto Group, which the title says eliminated internet downtime. Others cover a ransomware attack in local healthcare and a disaster recovery plan for a senior health center.
Varay also says its average client term is greater than eight years, and gives its average employee tenure as 8.25 years. We have not spoken to any of those clients.
How it says it charges
It publishes no prices. The site calls its services scalable and customizable to a budget, but does not say whether it bills per user, per device or by a flat fee. It advertises "100% guaranteed response times" and lists guaranteed response times among its wholesale services.
What its site does not tell you
On the 12 pages we read, the site gives no prices and no contract terms. The response time guarantee comes without a figure in minutes or hours, and without terms. It names no staff certifications, and it does not say how many people work there.
The home page describes Varay as "Texas's top IT company", a claim the site does not support with a source. None of these gaps is unusual for a provider's website, and all of them are worth asking about before you sign.
