Evolution Technologies 2 of 5 checks
Managed IT, MDR, compliance and cabling for San Antonio healthcare, automotive and legal firms.
Evolution Technologies Overview
Evolution Technologies is a San Antonio IT and cybersecurity company. Its site says it was founded and is run by Dan Vega, a systems engineer with two decades in the field, and that it has looked after San Antonio businesses for two decades. It gives no founding year. Several service pages also name Austin.
It describes its clients as growing businesses. Its industries page lists five sectors: healthcare, automotive, legal, financial services and nonprofit.
What Evolution Technologies sells
The services page lists managed IT services and support, an IT helpdesk, cybersecurity, managed detection and response, phishing protection and training, IT compliance services, backup and disaster recovery, VoIP and SIP trunks, managed print, and risk and security assessments. The home page adds Microsoft 365 and cloud work.
Physical work takes up more of this site than is usual for an MSP. It describes structured cabling, Wi-Fi site surveys and network design, and IP security cameras with access control. It calls its hardware choices vendor-neutral.
The site is frank about limits. The compliance page covers HIPAA, PCI, SOC 2 and the FTC Safeguards Rule, and says "We do not sell a certification". The backup page says no honest partner guarantees zero data loss.
The work it points to
The site displays the line CRN 2026 MSP 500, Pioneer 250, and says it was recognized by The Channel Company. It says its team was published in Cyber Defense Magazine and featured by the Business Continuity Institute.
The home page shows a 4.5 star Google rating from 25 reviews, and a figure of 640.2K events triaged last quarter.
Service pages quote Google reviews, and one healthcare testimonial is attributed to IMED Healthcare Associates. There are no case studies with figures. We have not spoken to any of those clients.
How it says it charges
It publishes no prices, and the pages we read describe no billing model. The about page says only that it does not sell "a flat menu of disconnected services". The starting point it advertises is a no-pressure IT and security assessment, and the site does not say what that costs.
What its site does not tell you
On the 12 pages we read, the site states no prices, no contract terms and no response times, beyond saying it usually replies to contact messages the same business day. It says its security operations center monitors around the clock, without giving a response target.
It names no certifications held by its staff and does not say how many people work there. None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

Evolution Technologies Services
What those services mean, and what to ask
Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.
What an MSP isProtection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.
Cybersecurity basicsHelp meeting a security standard or a regulator's rules. Ask which frameworks the provider has taken clients through, and what evidence it produces for an auditor.
Security frameworksCopies of your data kept where the original's problems cannot reach, and a plan for bringing systems back. Ask how often a restore is tested and how long a full recovery takes.
Backup and disaster recoveryThe physical side: structured cabling, racks, cameras and door access. Ask which cable category is being installed, whether each run is tested and labeled, and who can view the camera footage.

Rules that come with those sectors
Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.
- Healthcare
- A provider with access to patient data is a business associate under HIPAA. Ask for a signed business associate agreement before it touches your systems.
- Legal
- Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
- Financial services
- Firms covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act must keep a written information security program. Ask what the provider contributes to it and what evidence it can give an examiner.
