Privacy Policy

Packet Basics collects very little, sells nothing to data brokers, and runs no advertising trackers. One thing needs saying plainly up front: if you ask for quotes, we pass your request to the providers we match you with.

Section 1What we collect

Three things, and only when you hand them over or your browser sends them automatically.

WhatWhenWhy
Email addressYou subscribe to the weekly note or request a downloadTo send the thing you asked for
Quote request detailsYou ask us to find a provider: city or ZIP, company size, what you need, industry, email, and optionally phone, company name and a messageTo match you with providers and pass your request to them
Contact messageYou write to us through the contact formTo answer you and to correct the page you told us about
Server logsEvery request, automaticallySecurity, abuse prevention and debugging

Server logs contain your IP address, the page requested, the time, your user agent and the referring page. We do not build profiles from them and we do not link them to your email address.

We do not ask for and do not want payment details, government identifiers, health information or anything else sensitive. Do not send those through our forms.

Section 2Quote requests: what happens to your details

This is the part most privacy policies bury, so it goes second here.

When you submit a quote request, a person on our directory team reads it and selects up to three listed providers whose services, location and client profile fit what you described.

We send your request to those providers, which means they receive the details you entered, including your email address and anything you wrote in the message field. They contact you directly from that point on.

  • We send it to a maximum of three providers, never more.
  • We choose them on documented fit, never on who pays the most. The referral fee is the same flat amount for every provider.
  • We do not sell, rent or syndicate quote requests to lead brokers, aggregators or anyone outside the three providers we name.
  • Providers receive your request under a written agreement that they may use it only to respond to you, and may not resell it or add you to unrelated marketing.
  • Once a provider has your details, their own privacy policy governs what they do with them. Ask them for it.

If you would rather approach a provider yourself, every profile lists the company website and phone number. You never have to go through us.

Section 3How we use what we collect

To send the newsletter you subscribed to, to match and forward quote requests as described above, to reply to messages, to fix errors you report, and to keep the site up and free of abuse. That is the complete list.

We do not use your data to train models, we do not enrich it with third-party data, and we do not run behavioral advertising.

Section 4Legal bases

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, our lawful bases are consent for the newsletter and for any non-essential cookies, performance of a contract or steps taken at your request for quote requests, and legitimate interests for security logging and for answering messages you send us.

Section 5Who we share with

Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its database. Our email delivery provider, which sends the newsletter and transactional messages. The providers you asked us to match you with, as described in section 2.

That is all. We do not share with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not sell personal information as that term is used in the California Consumer Privacy Act.

We may disclose data if a law or a valid legal order requires it, or to protect the site and its readers from abuse.

Section 6How long we keep it

DataKept for
Newsletter emailUntil you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days
Quote request24 months, so we can investigate a complaint about a provider
Contact message24 months
Server logs30 days, then rotated out

Section 7Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within 30 days. There is no charge and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link. Deleting a quote request from our records does not delete it from the providers we already sent it to; contact them directly for that.

Section 8Security

The site is served over HTTPS. The database is not reachable from the public internet. Administrative access requires an account with a password and is limited to our editorial team. No system is perfectly secure, and we tell you plainly that we cannot guarantee absolute security; we can guarantee that we do not collect what we do not need.

Section 9Children

This is a site for IT professionals and business buyers. It is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has sent us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Section 10Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and material changes are noted on the about page. We do not make changes retroactive.

Section 11Contact

Write to [email protected], or use the contact form. Our registered business name and address will be published here before launch.
