IronEdge Group 2 of 5 checks
Managed and co-managed IT, cybersecurity and compliance from offices in Houston and San Antonio.
IronEdge Group Overview
IronEdge Group is a managed IT and cybersecurity company that its about page says was founded in Texas over 20 years ago. The site names Ryan Lakin as CEO and lists its leadership team by name. In Texas it lists Houston and San Antonio, and it also names Albuquerque, Phoenix and Mesa, Colorado and Kansas City.
The company says it grew in part by acquiring Provelocity, LANstar and Lighthouse IT. It says it specializes in companies with 25 to 250 employees, and names construction and engineering, professional services, retail and franchise businesses, and municipal offices among the clients it often supports.
What IronEdge Group sells
The site lists fully managed IT, co-managed IT alongside a client's own staff, and project work. The co-managed page describes help desk overflow and after-hours coverage, patching, Microsoft 365 administration, and vCIO planning. The home page advertises 24x7x365 monitoring.
The cybersecurity service is described as EDR on every managed endpoint, intrusion detection with a 24/7 security operations center, dark web credential monitoring, email and web filtering, patching, phishing tests and training. It says Microsoft 365 data is backed up to a third-party cloud with at least 30 days of retention.
A separate compliance service covers gap analysis, written policies and audit preparation against HIPAA, CMMC, CIS Controls, PCI DSS and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Cloud work centers on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. The site also lists business intelligence dashboards, Power BI, voice systems and AI guidance.
The work it points to
The pages we read name no clients. The cloud page says IronEdge has helped "dozens of clients", from property management firms to manufacturing companies, move to public cloud. The help desk page claims a 98% average customer satisfaction rating. We have not spoken to any of those clients.
How it says it charges
IronEdge promises transparent monthly pricing but shows none. For co-managed services it says pricing comes in multiple tiers "with no long-term lock-in", without describing the tiers or the agreement length. It offers a free consultation, a free IT assessment and a security scan. It publishes no prices.
What its site does not tell you
On the 12 pages we read, the site gives no prices and no contract terms, and does not say how many people work there. The one service figure is 12 seconds as the average time to answer a call. It states no target for resolving a problem.
The about page has an awards and certifications heading, but the saved text names none, and it calls itself a Microsoft partner without a tier. None of that is unusual for a provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

IronEdge Group Services
What those services mean, and what to ask
Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.
What an MSP isThe provider works alongside your own IT staff, taking the monitoring, tooling, out-of-hours cover or projects they have no time for. It depends on a written line between what each team owns.
IT outsourcing modelsProtection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.
Cybersecurity basicsHelp meeting a security standard or a regulator's rules. Ask which frameworks the provider has taken clients through, and what evidence it produces for an auditor.
Security frameworksLicensing, administration, security settings and migration for cloud platforms. The platform keeps the service running; backing up your data in it and securing the accounts is still somebody's job, so ask whose.
Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365Hosted or on-premises telephony carried over your data network. Voice is the first thing to suffer on a congested link, so ask how calls are prioritized.

Rules that come with those sectors
Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.
- Manufacturing
- Manufacturers in the defense supply chain are assessed under CMMC. If that is you, ask whether the provider has taken a client through it.
- Financial services
- Firms covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act must keep a written information security program. Ask what the provider contributes to it and what evidence it can give an examiner.
