NetAscendant Solutions Overview

Founded2017

NetAscendant Solutions is a managed IT provider based in Midland that serves Odessa and the wider Permian Basin. Its site says Dan McCown and Jack Cohlmia founded it in 2017. Both, it says, previously worked in IT management at Key Energy Services.

The company describes its clients as small and medium-sized businesses. The home page lists the industries it serves as oil and gas, real estate, engineering, legal and financial, manufacturing, logistics and non-profit.

What NetAscendant Solutions sells

The main product is a managed plan it calls Worry-Free IT Service. For end users the site lists email support, endpoint protection, operating system patching, data backup and remote or onsite desktop support. For servers it lists backup and disaster recovery and a monthly health check.

The plan includes monthly reporting on Windows updates, antivirus, backups and device inventory, plus a monthly user education email. The site says the company performs test restores of backed up data.

Security services listed separately include managed endpoint detection and response and Microsoft 365 backup. Network and cloud work covers Microsoft Office 365 licensing and email migration, network design, Cisco VoIP phone systems and Cisco Webex Teams. A co-managed option supports internal IT teams with monitoring, patching, a security stack and vCIO guidance.

The work it points to

The home page carries named testimonials from executives at LMB Real Estate Group, Oryx Midstream Services, Secured Document Shredding and BCCK Engineering. The Oryx quote says NetAscendant supports corporate and field offices and manages "the servers and systems that control our pipelines".

Service pages add short comments signed with a first name or none. We have not spoken to any of those clients.

How it says it charges

It publishes no prices. The home page describes three steps: contact, a free discovery session, then "a customized quote". The co-managed page says every agreement is customized. The site does not say whether billing is per user, per device or flat.

What its site does not tell you

On the 12 pages we read, the site gives no prices, no response times, no contract terms and no staff count. It calls its support responsive without a figure. It names Microsoft, Dell, Cisco and Amazon as partners, and says McCown holds certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon AWS and CompTIA. It names no company-level certification.

Five of those pages were blog posts or a testimonial stub, so the service detail is thin. None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

What those services mean, and what to ask

Managed ITNetAscendant Solutions lists: Managed IT

Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.

What an MSP is
Co-managed ITNetAscendant Solutions lists: Co-managed IT

The provider works alongside your own IT staff, taking the monitoring, tooling, out-of-hours cover or projects they have no time for. It depends on a written line between what each team owns.

IT outsourcing models
CybersecurityNetAscendant Solutions lists: IT security

Protection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.

Cybersecurity basics
NetworkingNetAscendant Solutions lists: Network services

Switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi and the internet connection: design, installation and upkeep. Ask who holds the administrator passwords to your own equipment.

Networking basics
Cloud and Microsoft 365NetAscendant Solutions lists: Cloud services

Licensing, administration, security settings and migration for cloud platforms. The platform keeps the service running; backing up your data in it and securing the accounts is still somebody's job, so ask whose.

Rules that come with those sectors

Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.

Legal
Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
Financial services
Firms covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act must keep a written information security program. Ask what the provider contributes to it and what evidence it can give an examiner.
Manufacturing
Manufacturers in the defense supply chain are assessed under CMMC. If that is you, ask whether the provider has taken a client through it.
