West Texas IT Consulting 2 of 5 checks
Managed services with a vCIO and a bilingual help desk for Midland clinics, law firms and oilfield services.
West Texas IT Consulting Overview
West Texas IT Consulting, which shortens its name to WTITC, is a managed IT company in Midland. Its site says John Brenner founded it in 2010, after eight years in the Navy, degrees from Texas Tech and ten years as a software developer for JDA Software. It says he still leads the team.
The site says it serves large and small clients in Midland, Odessa and the surrounding area. Its resource pages are written for law firms, oilfield service companies, healthcare and dental practices, veterinary clinics, insurance offices and non-profits across the Permian Basin.
What West Texas IT Consulting sells
The core offer is managed services: remote monitoring of computers and networks, preventative maintenance and a local help desk. The site says each client gets a Technology Alignment Manager and a virtual chief information officer who assess the environment regularly. Its healthcare page describes the model as managed services only, with no break/fix work.
It groups its tooling in two sets. System tools cover antivirus, data backups, system health monitoring and software updates. User tools cover phishing training, Dark Web monitoring and emergency mailbox access.
The help desk is bilingual, in English and Spanish, according to the site. The home page also lists hardware maintenance, repair and acquisition. Less usual for an MSP, it says it creates and maintains websites for clients.
The work it points to
The pages we read carry three client testimonials. They are attributed to a dental practice, to the office manager of Elite Veterinary Hospital, and to Midland Pediatrics Associates. All three praise prompt or timely service. We have not spoken to any of those clients.
How it says it charges
WTITC publishes more than most. Its legal, oilfield and healthcare pages each say clients typically invest $125 to $175 per endpoint per month. The oilfield page says the figure depends on environment size and security package, and lists two packages, Essentials and Complete, a $40 per endpoint managed services fee, and a tiered technology fee based on environment size.
It says on-site visits by its local technicians come at no additional cost. The site does not show how the $40 fee and the technology fee add up to the monthly range, or what each package costs.
What its site does not tell you
On the 7 pages we read, the site states an average help desk response time of 20 minutes, but no guaranteed time. It names no certifications and does not say how many people work there. It mentions service agreements without giving their length or cancellation terms.
None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

West Texas IT Consulting Services
What those services mean, and what to ask
Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.
What an MSP isA named person who plans budgets, replacements and projects with you. Ask how often you meet and what the written roadmap contains.
What a vCIO isProtection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.
Cybersecurity basicsThe number your staff call. Ask for the hours, the response time by priority, whether the people answering are the provider's own staff, and what an on-site visit costs.
Questions to ask an MSPThe physical side: structured cabling, racks, cameras and door access. Ask which cable category is being installed, whether each run is tested and labeled, and who can view the camera footage.

Rules that come with those sectors
Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.
- Healthcare
- A provider with access to patient data is a business associate under HIPAA. Ask for a signed business associate agreement before it touches your systems.
- Legal
- Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
- Insurance
- Firms covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act must keep a written information security program. Ask what the provider contributes to it and what evidence it can give an examiner.
