Valhalla Technology Services Overview

Founded2023

Valhalla Technology Services is a managed IT and cybersecurity company based in Portland, Texas. Its site says it covers South Texas, including Corpus Christi, Rockport, Aransas Pass and Kingsville. The pages we read give no founding year and name no owner or staff.

It describes its clients as small and mid-sized businesses, and its industry page is aimed at organizations with 5 to 25 employees. One resource page goes further and says it specializes in small healthcare clinics with 5 to 15 employees, and that its processes are built around healthcare environments.

What Valhalla Technology Services sells

The site lists four services: managed IT, cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery, and Microsoft 365 and cloud services. The managed service is described as 24/7 system monitoring, unlimited help desk support, and on-site and remote work for a predictable monthly price.

The cybersecurity page lists endpoint protection, email filtering, firewall management, multi-factor authentication and security monitoring. The backup page describes on-site and off-site backups and regular recovery testing. The site menu also lists penetration testing.

Much of the site is written for healthcare. Resource pages cover HIPAA technical safeguards for small clinics, and one page sets out who the company is not a good fit for, including clinics with in-house IT staff and those wanting remote-only support. Industry pages also address dental, legal, manufacturing, construction, hospitality and education.

The work it points to

The site names no clients. It gives two unnamed examples. One is a 15-employee professional services organization on a plan at $195 per user per month, which it says cut security alerts by 41% within 90 days. The other is a 9-employee medical clinic it says reduced audit findings to zero within 30 days.

We have not spoken to any of those clients.

How it says it charges

Valhalla describes flat-rate, per-user monthly pricing and publishes ranges rather than a rate card. Its pricing article gives $150 to $225 per user per month for 5 to 10 employees, $165 to $250 for 10 to 25 employees, and custom pricing for 25 or more.

Its home page gives a wider range, $100 to $250. It puts cybersecurity alone, and backup and disaster recovery alone, at $50 to $150 per user per month each. It says it is "not the lowest-cost IT provider".

What its site does not tell you

On the 12 pages we read, the site names no certifications and does not say how many people work there or how long it has operated. It states no response time of its own. It gives no contract length or cancellation terms.

None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

What those services mean, and what to ask

Help desk and supportValhalla Technology Services lists: IT support and help desk

The number your staff call. Ask for the hours, the response time by priority, whether the people answering are the provider's own staff, and what an on-site visit costs.

Questions to ask an MSP
NetworkingValhalla Technology Services lists: Network infrastructure

Switches, firewalls, Wi-Fi and the internet connection: design, installation and upkeep. Ask who holds the administrator passwords to your own equipment.

Networking basics
CybersecurityValhalla Technology Services lists: Cybersecurity

Protection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.

Cybersecurity basics
Cloud and Microsoft 365Valhalla Technology Services lists: Microsoft 365

Licensing, administration, security settings and migration for cloud platforms. The platform keeps the service running; backing up your data in it and securing the accounts is still somebody's job, so ask whose.

Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365
Backup and disaster recoveryValhalla Technology Services lists: Backup and recovery

Copies of your data kept where the original's problems cannot reach, and a plan for bringing systems back. Ask how often a restore is tested and how long a full recovery takes.

Rules that come with those sectors

Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.

Healthcare
A provider with access to patient data is a business associate under HIPAA. Ask for a signed business associate agreement before it touches your systems.
Education
Student records are protected by FERPA. Ask how access to them is limited and logged.
Manufacturing
Manufacturers in the defense supply chain are assessed under CMMC. If that is you, ask whether the provider has taken a client through it.
Hospitality
Anyone taking card payments has to meet PCI DSS. Ask which parts of the card environment the provider would manage.
Legal
Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
