Telesys IT Services Overview

Founded1996

Telesys IT Services is a managed IT and business phone company that markets itself in Fort Worth and says its offices are in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. Its site names Gary Hunt as owner and CEO and Mark Titus as vice president of sales, and describes the company as family owned and operated.

The site is not consistent about its age. The home page says it has served the Texas area since 1996, while the owner's message says "Since 1994". It describes its clients as small and medium-sized businesses, and says it supports over 2,000 businesses in the area plus national accounts.

What Telesys IT Services sells

The about page says the company began as a communications provider selling business phone systems, paging systems and voice and data cabling, and later created a data networking division. Phones are still a large part of the site. It sells the ESI cloud PBX and ESI desk phones, and cloud hosted VoIP.

On the IT side it lists network management, 24/7/365 monitoring, help desk support, disaster recovery plans and backup, cloud services and AI-powered solutions. The security pages describe managed endpoint and network security, a unified threat management appliance, email encryption, spam protection, phishing simulation for staff, penetration testing and help with HIPAA, PCI DSS and SOX.

It says it is an authorized reseller for Cisco, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Avaya, Adtran, ESI and Samsung. Its industry page lists accountants, law firms, dealerships, manufacturers, healthcare providers, supply chain businesses and veterinary clinics.

The work it points to

The testimonials page carries short quotes signed with a first name, an initial and a sector, such as an IT manager in the dental sector and a finance contact in performing arts. One names Lay and Williams Health Insurance and says Telesys recommendations on its T-1 service saved 50%. We have not spoken to any of those clients.

How it says it charges

Telesys describes its managed plan as "A flat-rate service" and sets it against high hourly rates. For the ESI cloud phone system it describes a single monthly cost per user seat with the phone included, and a 30-day money-back guarantee for all ESI products. It publishes no prices.

What its site does not tell you

On the 12 pages we read, the site gives no prices, no response times and no contract terms. It names no technical certifications, only reseller relationships and memberships in the Better Business Bureau and the Cowtown Executive Association. It does not say how many people work there.

None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about before you sign.

What those services mean, and what to ask

Managed ITTelesys IT Services lists: Managed IT

Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.

What an MSP is
CybersecurityTelesys IT Services lists: Cybersecurity

Protection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.

Cybersecurity basics
Cloud and Microsoft 365Telesys IT Services lists: Cloud IT

Licensing, administration, security settings and migration for cloud platforms. The platform keeps the service running; backing up your data in it and securing the accounts is still somebody's job, so ask whose.

Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365
VoIP and phone systemsTelesys IT Services lists: Phone systems

Hosted or on-premises telephony carried over your data network. Voice is the first thing to suffer on a congested link, so ask how calls are prioritized.

What QoS is
Vendor management and procurementTelesys IT Services lists: Hardware and software

The provider deals with your software, telecom and hardware suppliers and buys equipment for you. Ask whether it takes a margin on what it sells.

Rules that come with those sectors

Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.

Accounting
Tax and accounting firms fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule, and the IRS expects a written information security plan. Ask how the provider supports yours.
Legal
Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
Manufacturing
Manufacturers in the defense supply chain are assessed under CMMC. If that is you, ask whether the provider has taken a client through it.
Healthcare
A provider with access to patient data is a business associate under HIPAA. Ask for a signed business associate agreement before it touches your systems.
