Hardin Technology 2 of 5 checks
Managed IT, Microsoft and cloud work, security and compliance for El Paso organizations.
Hardin Technology Overview
Hardin Technology is an IT outsourcing company in El Paso. Its about page says it has furnished IT services since 2000 and that it serves more El Paso law firms than any other company, a claim we cannot check. The pages we read name no owner directly, though client testimonials mention Josh Hardin and recent blog posts carry his name.
The site menu lists many industries, among them accounting, architecture, banking, healthcare, legal and manufacturing. It says it supports more than 850 end users and more than 40 active business clients.
What Hardin Technology sells
The core product is what the site calls the Complete Support Plan. It describes unlimited remote and onsite help from 8am to 5pm, monitoring, security, backups and lifecycle management under one monthly plan. It says the plan also includes essential licensing, hardware firewall subscriptions and local off-site data backup.
Backup is described as a hybrid of local and off site copies, with same day recovery from local storage. The services page adds VPN remote access and Voice Over IP telephones.
Around that sit many individual service pages. The ones we read cover a managed security operations center with 24/7 monitoring, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams deployment, and an IT cost assessment. The menu also lists penetration testing, vCIO and vCISO services, and AI development.
The work it points to
The site carries signed client testimonials. They include Ryan & Sanders, LLP, Mijares Mora Architects, and Moore Nordell Kroeger Architects, which says Hardin has provided its network administration since 2001.
Its service pages repeat a set of figures: a 98% client retention rate, a 4.8/5 average satisfaction rating, and over 95% of issues resolved on the first call. The site gives no source for them. We have not spoken to any of those clients.
How it says it charges
Hardin Technology says the Complete Support Plan is billed at a single predictable monthly rate with no hidden charges. It states there is no setup fee when a client signs a one-year minimum agreement. It publishes no prices.
What its site does not tell you
On the 12 pages we read, the site gives no prices and does not say how many people work there. It does state response times: remote requests typically answered in under one hour, and plan clients "guaranteed a response within four business hours". The remedy if that is missed is not stated.
It says every consultant is certified by Microsoft, that it holds Microsoft Certified Partner status, and it mentions a Dell partnership. It names no security certifications. None of that is unusual for a small provider's website, and all of it is worth asking about.

Hardin Technology Services
What those services mean, and what to ask
Ongoing responsibility for your systems for a recurring fee: monitoring, patching, support and planning. Ask exactly which devices, users and sites the fee covers, and what is billed on top.
What an MSP isProtection, detection and response: endpoint software, email filtering, firewalls and someone watching the alerts. Many providers resell a specialist for monitoring, so ask who actually does the work and who calls you at night.
Cybersecurity basicsLicensing, administration, security settings and migration for cloud platforms. The platform keeps the service running; backing up your data in it and securing the accounts is still somebody's job, so ask whose.
Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365Copies of your data kept where the original's problems cannot reach, and a plan for bringing systems back. Ask how often a restore is tested and how long a full recovery takes.
Backup and disaster recoveryHelp meeting a security standard or a regulator's rules. Ask which frameworks the provider has taken clients through, and what evidence it produces for an auditor.

Rules that come with those sectors
Naming a sector is not evidence that a provider meets its rules. These are the ones that commonly apply in the United States, and what to ask about each.
- Accounting
- Tax and accounting firms fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule, and the IRS expects a written information security plan. Ask how the provider supports yours.
- Financial services
- Firms covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act must keep a written information security program. Ask what the provider contributes to it and what evidence it can give an examiner.
- Education
- Student records are protected by FERPA. Ask how access to them is limited and logged.
- Government
- Public bodies that handle criminal justice information fall under the FBI CJIS Security Policy. Ask whether the provider's staff have been through the required screening.
- Healthcare
- A provider with access to patient data is a business associate under HIPAA. Ask for a signed business associate agreement before it touches your systems.
- Legal
- Lawyers have a professional duty to make reasonable efforts to protect client information, under ABA Model Rule 1.6 and its state versions. Ask how client files and email are secured.
- Manufacturing
- Manufacturers in the defense supply chain are assessed under CMMC. If that is you, ask whether the provider has taken a client through it.
